Student demographics

CSUN is home to 2,500 international students from more than 100 countries. Approximately seven percent of the total student enrollment is made up of an international population, with the largest groups hailing from China, Saudi Arabia, India, Kuwait, Japan and Korea. We take pride in our open-minded, diverse and welcoming campus community. University Pathways, ESL, and other programs and services

The College for Graduate, International and Midcareer Education at CSUN offers great options to international students, such as the Online Intensive English Program (IEP) helps international students who may lack the language skills to pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The program is not only focused on improving English skills but also on easing the transition to university degree studies by offering the following benefits:

    • Flexible Online Learning
    • Conditional admission to CSUN programs prior to meeting the university’s English-language proficiency admission requirements
    • Preparation for the TOEFL and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations
    • TOEFL waivers for students who meet certain requirements
    • State-of-the-art language lessons with experienced faculty holding advanced degrees

The Student Success Pathway Program. This one year program provides international first-time freshmen students with a pathway into the the university, helping participants to develop the academic and English language skills needed to succeed at CSUN. The Student Success Pathway gives you:

  • eligibility for admission to CSUN
  • 15 units of transferable academic credits towards graduation
  • integrated classes with CSUN students
  • the ability to enroll in CSUN summer classes

Other opportunities include the Semester at CSUN program, for students who want a short-term study abroad experience, and a pre-MBA certificate program that leads to the MBA degree program.

Student Housing options

International students may live on or off campus. The College for Graduate, International and Midcareer Education coordinates housing for students enrolled in Intensive English and University Pathway (IEUP) programs. For information about on-campus housing for IEUP students, visit the housing for IEUP students webpage. For specific requirements, visit the international admissions page or graduate studies page. Freshman international students must have a 3.0 GPA and a passing score on the TOEFL, or other acceptable tests.

International Student visas issued

Both F1 and J1 visas are issued.

Cost of attendance and financial assistance

Tuition and fees vary depending on the degree program. For specific information, view the cost of attendance. Financial aid is not available for international students.

All F-1 visa students are required to provide documentation of financial support before an I-20 document can be issued. For specific requirements, download the Affidavit of Financial Support.
